Internal funding opportunities

Each opportunity has specific deadlines and processes, as detailed in each link. All applications should be submitted to the Faculty of Health Sciences research office (

As a limited number of awards are available, applications will be evaluated and selected by the Faculty's Research Committee, which is chaired by the Vice-Dean Research, and includes 5 faculty members, one member for each school of the Faculty.

For joint opportunities with the Office of the Vice-President Research, only requests previously evaluated positively at the Faculty level will be forwarded. The Research Office will review requests from full time Faculty members to support research activities within the Faculty.

Requests will be evaluated by the Faculty Research Committee and selections/allocations made on a competitive basis, contingent on availability of funds.

Only one application per PI per competition please.

Postdoctoral Fellowships in Nutrition and Mental Health

Call for applications

Applications are now being accepted for two postdoctoral fellowships to support researchers conducting leading-edge research related to the links among food, nutrition, digestion, absorption, nutrient bioavailability, gut microbiota and mental well-being. These fellowships will be given to postdoctoral fellows to conduct research under the supervision of a tenured or tenure-track professor in the School of Nutrition Sciences, in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. Each fellowship is being award for two consecutive years.

Eligibility Criteria

At the time of accepting this post- doctoral fellowship, candidates must demonstrate that they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Have completed doctoral studies in microbiology, neuroscience, biochemistry, nutrition, psychology, food science or a related field
  2. Have all appropriate documents to work in Canada (e.g. work permit); (Note: the timeline for starting the fellowship may be delayed by up to 4 months to enable award recipients to secure appropriate documentation). Information on work permits can be found on the Government of Canada website.

Exclusion Criteria

  1. Fellowship recipients cannot hold another postdoctoral fellowship concurrently with this fellowship.
  2. Postdoctoral fellows who have previously held this fellowship are not eligible to apply.

How to Apply

A complete application consists of the following, submitted together as a pdf file:

  1. Official transcript from the applicant’s doctoral studies
  2. A curriculum vitae
  3. A 3-page (single-spaced) summary from the applicant detailing their previous research experience and how their interests and experience align with the purpose of this funding initiative
  4. A letter of reference from the applicant’s doctoral supervisor or a thesis committee member, highlighting the qualities of the candidate and how they align with this post-doctoral fellowship
  5. Completed reference forms from two academic mentors who have contributed to the applicant’s education, accompanied by a completed reference questionnaire. These letters cannot be completed by the doctoral supervisor.
  6. A letter of support from at least one potential mentor within the School of Nutrition Sciences stating the qualities of the candidate to justify support of this fellowship and indicating source of funding for research support.

Application deadline: Applications must be submitted via email to the Faculty Research Office no later than April 30th.

Value and duration of the award: $50,000 (per year) for 2 years. This fellowship is non-renewable.
