Biography

Biography

Affiliate Researcher, University of Ottawa Heart Institute (2018-Present)

Dr. Krystina B. Lewis is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Ottawa. Her current program of research focuses on knowledge translation to patients and shared decision-making in the cardiovascular context, specifically for patients and their families facing treatment decisions about life supportive therapies. She is also interested in exploring innovative approaches to deliver collaborative, effective, and sustainable healthcare services that are inclusive of patient engagement and preferences, particularly in the setting of older adults with cardiovascular disease. Her goal is to find effective and sustainable ways to facilitate shared decision-making in practice to improve patient and system outcomes.

Prior to academia, her clinical nursing career was primarily held at the Ottawa Heart Institute working in various in-patient and outpatient settings. It is from her clinical experiences that curiosities about patient engagement in health care decisions in this context arose. She has maintained Canada Nurses’ Association certification in Cardiovascular Nursing since 2010.

Dr. Lewis teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
