Charles Daboné, PhD

Biography

Charles Daboné is a nutritionist. He holds a PhD in international nutrition from the University of Montréal and has completed postdoctoral studies at the Montfort Hospital Research Institute conjointly with the University of Ottawa. He also holds a B.Sc. degree in Human Nutrition/Food Science and a M.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

With more than fifteen years of experience, Dr. Daboné was a food and nutritional biochemist at the National Public Health Laboratory of Burkina Faso, where he held the positions of head of the section of edible oils and the department of food physic and chemistry. Interested in international public health and nutrition issues, Dr. Daboné has obtained various certificates with the Public Health Agency of Canada and a certificate in nutrition in emergency from Emory University (Atlanta, USA). His research focuses on the double burden of malnutrition in school-aged children, with a particular focus on eating habits/behaviours and their determinants.

Since 2013, Dr. Daboné has been a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa within the Faculty of Health Sciences (School of Nutrition Sciences and Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences). He teaches a wide range of courses including: Public health nutrition; Food security and nutrition in emergencies; International health; Development and evaluation of health programs; Socio-political and economic perspectives in health.
