Record high partnerships for the School of Human Kinetics undergraduate internship program
June 21, 2018
The School of Human Kinetics of the University of Ottawa partners with community organizations to offer internship opportunities and work-integrated learning experiences for its students. Our network has recently expanded to include over 150 esteemed venues in the National Capital Region, offering opportunities for students in English and in French, in fields related to human kinetics and kinesiology.
Our internship program is the preferred destination for community partners seeking student-interns in these fields.
Our undergraduate students are benefiting from high-quality community placements in APA 4111 / 4511, where they can transfer their knowledge into applied competencies in a supervised environment. During the 2017-2018 academic year, 170 undergraduate students completed a 3-credit, 100-hour internship in clinical kinesiology, athletic therapy, high performance training, ergonomics, teaching physical education, coaching, health promotion, or sport management. They worked with a wide range of populations, from youth to the elderly, and from competitive athletes to individuals with chronic health conditions.
Our internship program is a capstone experience for Human Kinetics students.
The growth of the internship program represents the School’s commitment to providing each of our fourth-year students a possible internship with integrity that sets them on a career-related path in their area of study. Students entering our undergraduate programs in the fall of 2018 will be able to pursue a 6-credit internship in their fourth year of studies (2021/2022). In light of this, preparations are underway to further enrich the internship experience and provide our graduates with more practical experience, as well as strategies for the marketing of professional competencies and career networking.
